Aesthetics Q & A

What is aesthetics?

Aesthetics is a branch of medicine that uses noninvasive and minimally invasive methods to enhance your appearance and health. It allows you to decrease the visible signs of aging without incisions, anesthesia, or a long recovery.

Aesthetics care helps you look and feel better, but it doesn’t dramatically change your face. It simply enhances your natural appearance so you look younger.

How can aesthetics treatments help me look younger?

Aesthetics treatments work in a couple of ways to help turn back the clock. The most popular injectable aesthetics treatments are:

Botox

Botox is a neuromodulator that smooths out forehead lines, lines between the brows, and crow’s feet around the eyes.

Botox disrupts nerve signals from your brain to your face, so the muscles don’t contract and cause lines and wrinkles. It’s a highly effective way to look years younger, with results lasting for up to four months.

Botox is a multi-purpose product. It’s FDA approved to treat chronic migraine headaches and excessive sweating, both of which will also be treated in the office soon.

Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers solve a different issue that’s common in aging skin: volume loss. Unfortunately, as you age, your body decreases its production of two important ingredients to firm skin: collagen and hyaluronic acid.

Collagen is a protein that gives your skin its underlying structure and firmness, and hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that binds to moisture and helps keep your skin tight, hydrated, and firm.

Lesser amounts of collagen and hyaluronic acid lead to nasolabial folds (smile lines), sunken cheeks, jowls, and other obvious effects of volume loss.

Dermal fillers use an exact synthetic duplicate of hyaluronic acid to instantly fill in areas of lost volume in areas like the nasolabial folds, cheeks, and lips. Fillers usually last around a year.

If you have both muscle-related wrinkles and areas of low volume, you can schedule these aesthetics treatments during the same appointment if you like.

What other treatments can support my aesthetics treatments?

Some treatments can help your body make its own fresh collagen and hyaluronic acid, for example clinical peptides and bioidentical hormone replacement.

These treatments also support other aspects of your health and can resolve issues like low energy, libido loss, weight gain, and other problems common with age.

Apex Integrative Medicine, PLLC, is currently seeing patients through telemedicine. Botox and filler treatments start soon, when the new office opens in Lewisville. Call the office or click online scheduling now.
